I am Here and You are Distant
Installed in the stairwell of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee, FL.
A replica attic was constructed in the stairwell and visitors were invited to ascend the ladder to peer into the attic. The movement of their torsos entering the attic triggered motion sensors that controlled a 1973 Cannonball train set that encircled the space and audio tracks. A small video camera was hidden amongst the things in the attic and transmitted video to the televisions on the ground floor. The resulting images on the television were a live video feed from the point of view of the things in the attic. When no viewer was in the attic, the image was static — as soon as a viewer entered the attic, the attic was brought to life.
